TWO HANDLED FOOTED BOWL BY ARTHUR STONE, GARDNER, MASSACHUSETTS. Early mark with “L” representing Lamphrey, 1908-1911. A fine engraved dedication under the rim indicates the piece to have been a silver anniversary gift from the family of Hollis French who died during this year. French, a connoisseur and author on books on old silver, actually helped Stone design a chafing dish for the French’s own 25th wedding anniversary in 1921. WEIGHT: 9 tr. oz. TWO SIGNED LETTERS BY JOHN F. KENNEDY. Both involve the recent widow Mrs. Rita V. Stelline. The first letter, dated May 20th, 1953 is in response to Stephen D’Arcy’s request for information regarding the windows pension. It is on United States Senate John F. Kennedy stationary and signed “John Kennedy”. Accompanying the letter is a copy dated May 15th of the response to Kennedy from Colonel F. B. Carberry. Second letter dated June 8th, 1953 on Kennedy Senate stationary indicating to Stephen D’Arcy that the request is being dealt with by the Veterans Administration. It is signed “John” and has a copy of the original correspondence attached. Along with these two letters is the original request from Stephen D’Arcy which indicates that John Stelline, the widows husband, was killed in action on April 15th, 1953. SIZE: 10-1/2” x 8”. FINE LOT OF EIGHT LEATHER TRAVEL CASES. Lot consists of a matched set of five graduated suitcases. Each having a removable canvas outside covering. The suitcases are monogrammed “E.H.L.S.” (Eric H.L. Sexton). Each of these cases have heavy leather construction with brass hardware and sturdy handles. Three smallest cases are impress marked on the side “Manufactured by Smith of Bath”. Second largest marked “W.H. Smith (Bath Ltd)”. Largest does not appear to be marked. Middle size has eight compartments, rest having open interiors. SIZES: Range from 14” x 10” to 36-1/2” x 21-1/2”. This solid mahogany case viewer has multiple controls for hands-free viewing of 25 plate image trays. TWO PART STEREO OPTIC CARD CABINET BY KEYSTONE VIEW COMPANY. One door cabinet has six drawers which hold stereo optic cards. Cabinet rests on a frame that has square legs and caster feet. Cards are numbered 1 through 600 and appear to be a complete or almost complete set in very nice condition, which are slightly curved. Lot includes United States and International cards. VINTAGE GIBSON LG-1 GUITAR. The acoustic guitar is marked “LG1” on the inside and “Gibson” at the top of the neck. Possibly of 1954 or 1955 vintage. Six string with sunburst type finish. JOHN ROGERS GROUP “FOOTBALL”. Signed “John Rogers New York” with title on side of base. Group shows four football players, two men tackling another while a man pulls football from clutches of another. We are told that the four players were all Yale students, three being John Rogers sons and the other was the Captain of the 1888 Championship Football Team. The first professional football game was not played until 1897, four years after this group was completed. College football had started in 1869. SIZE: 16” h x 11” w x 9-1/4” d. FINE CARVED AND PAINTED CAROUSEL HORSE. The outside row “Flying Horse” is shown with all legs up, turned head and fabulously carved mane, head and tail. The old park paint surface is very colorful and shows a light brown horse with white mane and tail. A green, blue and orange blanket with brown and orange trimmed saddle. There is a large grape cluster carving on hind quarters. Glass jewel decoration on bridle, blanket and front. Comes complete with a rugged display stand. 19th – 20th Century. This lovely babe so young and fair called home by early doom just came to show how sweet a flower in paradise could bloom”. Beside the monument is a willow tree with bird and standing beside is a woman with blonde hair, blue and red dress holding an anchor. The border with cemetery and gravestones, crosses and brick doorways. Bottom right signed in pen “By E. Blackman”. Housed in an early wood frame in gold and black. SIZE: 13-3/4” x 16”. INTERESTING FOLK ART BIRCH BARK COLLAGE BY EDWARD W. MERRILL, CONCORD, NH. The collage has a number of black figures which are comprised of birch bark clothing and pencil drawn heads and hands. There are some white watercolor highlights and the scene depicts a stage setting with audience. Title on the bottom margin “The Blackville Debating Society – “Wedder-Lord Dorwin Involved Hisself Or Somebody Else” The Scorner In The Corner Will Reply”. Against the back wall is a sign “No Contemptible Lauqig Allowed in the DeBaite”. This is all on a black paper background with white highlights. Signed center middle “E. W. Merrill Concord, NH”. Attached to back is a copy of an article concerning this artist. Article indicates that he worked from 1875 to the early 1900’s. Housed in an Eastlake type ebonized and gilt trim frame. CASED MODEL OF THE ARMED AMERICAN SCHOONER “LARK”. The Lark was built in 1812 and sailed as a privateer under government commission. She was ordered to attack vessels of nations with which America was in a state of war. Representing a typical Baltimore clipper. Built with a solid hull, built bulwarks, laid deck, six guns, four figures and authentically rigged and painted. Scale is 1/8th to 1. LLOYD THOMAS (American, Early 20th Century) “ABNER COBURN”. Outstanding carved wood and painted relief ship portrait of the Abner Coburn in full sail coming towards viewer through light wavy sea, eight porpoises riding the bow wave. The ship is relief carved with a carved sea, black painted bottom border with ships name. Painting is signed lower right “L.H. Thomas Apres CRP”. The Abner Coburn was built by William Rogers in 1882. The ship was named after the thirteenth Governor of Maine. Housed in a black and gold molded wood frame. SIZE: 17-3/4” x 22”. CONDITION: Surface grime, generally very good. The drawers have an interior locking mechanism. The bottom section with inset fall front design which opens to a large open interior with geometric diamond pattern.
