REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD SILVER MOUNTED FLINTLOCK PISTOL BY ISAAC PRATT OF LONDON.

NSN. Cal. 62. 7-1/4″ Octagon to round tapered bbl is engraved “London” on top flat. Chamfered lock with long tapered tail, has early non-waterproof pan with bridled friction frizzen, and flat bodied serpentine cock. “I PRATT” is engraved under cupid’s bow decorative filing at top of lockplate. Walnut full stock with knob butt is mounted with a combination of steel and silver. Steel trigger guard has relief acorn finial, and fancy silver mounts include pierced sideplate, escutcheon plate at top of grip, and relief cast acanthus decorated grip cap. Mounts bear hallmarks for Birmingham, sterling, and makers mark “CF” (Charles Freeth). No date stamp is visible. Isaac Pratt was working from 1771 to 1775. This type of pistol was carried by many officers both American and British during the Revolutionary War. Consignor states that this pistol was once displayed at the Flagler museum in Palm Beach Florida. PROVENANCE: Notes on this pistol and copy of article “Pistols and the American Revolution” from AMERICAN RIFLEMAN in 1955 by Harold L. Peterson. CONDITION: Good. Iron parts cleaned over deep pitting. CHARLEVILLE 1763 MUSKET.

NSN. Cal. 72. 44-3/4″ Bbl. Typical lock with inset pan and bridled friction frizzen, engraved “Charleville”. Walnut full stock is banded to bbl and iron mounted. Being sold unreserved. CONDITION: Fair to good. Bbl is dark brown patina, and has been re-vented. Lock appears to be orig flint. Stock has had comb cut away, and has a number of cracks around lockplate with area between lock and bbl tang replaced. Mechanically poor. 51707-2 MGM21 (2,500-3,500) – Lot 3563

MODEL 1816 SPRINGFIELD FLINTLOCK MUSKET.

NSN. Cal. 69. Standard configuration with 42″ bbl dated “1826” on lock and “1838” on bbl. Gun is a re-conversion but presents nicely. CONDITION: Very good as reconverted. Welded breech for reconversion is evident as is dissimilar color of lock parts added. Gun otherwise appears orig and complete with solid stock with several small cracks rear of lock, discernible cartouches. A large “R” is carved on right side of buttstock. Remnants of orig brown finish can be found on bbl where protected under bands. Metal otherwise is a mottled brown/iron patina. 51500-63 JS (500-800) – Lot 3566

VERY RARE 2ND MODEL BROWN BESS FLINTLOCK MUSKET BRANDED “CUMBERLAND” FOR CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NOVA SCOTIA MILITIA.”.

NSN. Cal. 78. Standard configuration of 2nd Model Brown Bess, 57-3/4″ overall with 42″ rnd bbl with no discernible bbl markings remain. Lock marked “HENSHAW” and branded on left side of buttstock in almost 7″ panel “CUMBERLAND” over “XIX”. There is also “17” cut into bottom of stock below. There are no other discernible markings than a few scattered British proofs on stock rear of trigger guard and rear of lock escutcheon. Gun is a later 2nd Model with Pratt’s improvements dating after 1778. CONDITION: Overall good as restored. Re-conversion, top jaw screw is replacement as are sling swivels. Bbl cleaned and pitted. Lock is functional with some newer file marks where apparently refitted to stock on bottom. Brass hardware has light to medium mustard patina. Stock is restored with several inset repairs including 2″ at toe and restored forestock tip including brass nosecap, several cracks and insets are well disguised in restoration but “CUMBERLAND” brand appears orig.
