3RD MODEL 1873 WINCHESTER OCTAGON BARREL FULL MAGAZINE RIFLE WITH CRESCENT BUTT.

SN 485945 B. Cal. 32 WCF. 24″ oct bbl, full magazine, blue finish. Straight grained varnished American walnut stocks with crescent butt. Bbl has 2-line Winchester address in front of rear sight and cal mark at rear. Standard sights for this model. Receiver is of the stepped variety. Upper tang is marked “Model 1873” with finials. Lower tang has SN stamped behind lever. Elevator is marked “32 cal”. Buttstock has crescent buttplate with no trap-door. Fore-end has steel cap. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl and magazine have 30-40% blue finish with the balance turning a pleasing plumb brown patina. Magazine has small dent on left side behind hanger. Sights are very good. Bore is dark with strong rifling. Receiver has 60% blue overall with some staining on forward left side and side-plate. Side-plate screw is marred. Right side plate is scratched. Loading gate retains considerable blue. Elevator is a mustard patina with a sharp marking. Tang markings are sharp. Dust cover retains 40-50% bright blue blending to a pleasing plumb brown patina. Hammer retains considerable case color, especially on right side and rear. Lever also retains a generous amount of case color with some roughness on the bottom. Stocks are very good, full-sized with handling marks overall. Buttplate retains a considerable amount of faded case color with erosion at the heal and toe. Fore-end cap retains 30-40% bright blue with slight marring of the screws. A very nice Winchester 1873 Rifle. Made in 1895. 49971-1 TEP (3,000-5,000) – Lot 1023
