3RD MODEL 1873 SADDLE RING CARBINE WITH STEPPED RECEIVER IN SADDLE SCABBARD MARKED E. HEINRICH MAKER MASON. TEXAS.

SN 116530A. Cal. 38 WCF. 20″ bbl. Blue finish. Straight grained American walnut stocks with carbine buttplate. Carbine sights. Receiver is of stepped type. All markings are standard for this model. Lower tang on receiver has been replaced. Lower tang shows assembly no. “95” on left side under buttstock. Tang was definitely replaced during period of use and matches condition of receiver. An illegible no. is in upper tang mortise of stock. Saddle scabbard has maker mark on both sides of throat, has basket weave tooling and is marked “JACK HOFMANN” in bold letters of left side. Manufactured in 1882. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. “Bill” Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and magazine tube are a silver-gray patina overall with sharp markings and good sights. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Receiver is also a silver-gray patina overall with slight traces of blue in protected areas. Top of receiver has been battered. Dust cover is heavily pitted. Elevator is a mustard brown patina with traces of cal. mark. Hammer and lever are also silver-gray patina. Tang markings are clear. Stocks are very good, undersized and have been cleaned and re-varnished long ago. Buttplate is a silver-gray patina. Saddle scabbard is a russet brown color with clear markings. A very interesting 73 carbine that was repaired long ago and deserves research. 49973-30 TEP (1,500-3,500) – Lot 1041
