WALDO PEIRCE (American, 1884-1970) “THE DUCHESS OF ALBA”, AFTER GOYA.

Oil on canvas Housed in an early 19th century French carved giltwood frame Unsigned, inscribed lower left “Goya” and “Alba” on her ring Note: Francisco Goya painted The Black Duchess in 1797. The painting depicts María Cayetana de Silva, the 13th Duchess of Alba at the age of thirty-five years. Waldo Peirce was known to have copied other famous European paintings during his travels. SIZE: 61″ x 40″. Overall: 68-1/2″ x 47-1/2″ PROVENANCE: By descent within the family of the artist CONDITION: Good, lined, with flake losses, surface dirt and minor restoration, including her face.
