MODEL 1860 COLT ARMY REVOLVER CONVERTED TO FIRE “LIP-FIRE” CARTRIDGE.

SN 189226. Cal. 44. Very rare possibly one-of-a-kind “Lip-Fire” conversion of late production Colt percussion Army revolver with original ivory grips, converted to cartridge with what appears to be Richards ejector SNd “800”, however there are no other Richards numbers present on gun and other SNs are from original percussion revolver which are all matching including ivory grips. Cylinder is of unknown manufacture with no markings. Cylinder stops have no approaches and are crudely cut, not milled. This is an interesting apparent blacksmith or gunsmith attempt for the “Lip-Fire” cartridge which appears original to the time of manufacture with 8″ bbl. This revolver is pictured in “Colt Conversions” by McDowell on pgs 407, 408, and 409. NOTE: SN in book is a mistake, correct number is 189226 the “8” was mistaken for a “3”. The attribution to the Firth Collection is also erroneous. PROVENANCE: TThe Estate of G. W. “Bill” Stewart of Sonora, Texas. Special Note: This item contains or is made of ivory. Do not bid on this lot unless you have read and agreed to our "Ivory Position Statement" and the "Waiver of Legal and Financial Risk to James D. Julia in regards to your Purchase of an Ivory Object." This information is located in the front section of our catalog. CONDITION: Very good overall. Retaining about 70% nickel plating. “Certifiable antique elephant ivory” grips are well fit with a small chipped inner toe on right side. Mechanically gun functions well with worn bore with discernible rifling. 49973-140 JS IVORY (3,000-4,000) – Lot 1267
