This is something that this cataloger has never seen, and appears contemporary to the re-build of this revolver. Cylinder shows an “R.A.C.” inspector’s mark on rear face between two chambers and a “B” proof mark on front face. Grips show an “R.A.C.” inspector’s cartouche on right side. Left side of grip shows slight remnants of orig inspector’s cartouche from 1891 when the revolver SN 70996 was first shipped. Butt of each grip is stamped with an “R.A.C.” inspector mark. Artillery model revolvers saw a lot of service in both The Spanish American War and The Philippine Insurrection. Accompanied by a Colt Factory letter showing the original shipment of this revolver to the United States Government on March 18, 1891 in a shipment of 200 guns. No record was found for the re-build. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Joel Hankinson. CONDITION: Very fine to excellent. Bbl retains 96% bright blue finish with visible feathering marks around front sight and ejector rod.
