Oil on canvas, 1861 Housed in a 19th century giltwood frame Inscribed on verso “Le Chevalier Falardeau, Artiste Peinter, 5. Via L Spirito Florence 1861 – Mitchell” Note: Antoine Falardeau was a Canadian born artist whose talents brought him to Italy to study the Italian masters. Florence became his second home, where he enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts and exhibited at the Uffizi, where Raphael’s Madonna of the Goldfinch resides to this day. He is best known as a copyist who exhibited and sold his works both in Canada and throughout Europe. SIZE: 43″ x 31″.
