JOHN LAFARGE (American, 1835-1910) “HEAD OF CHRIST”.

Graphite on parchment laid on card Unframed Red round chop mark lower left and “Head of Christ “Walk to Emmaus”” in pencil lower center Three labels on original backing paper: 1. For Becky Denison Fisherman, Gift of Mrs. Marge Seymour. 2. Head of Christ/in pencil on parchment/by John LaFarge/(father of Oliver & Christopher. 3. Granite State Studio Keene, New Hampshire Note: Research indicates that this may be a study for a John LaFarge stain glass window identified as being in Trinity Church, Boston. A copy of the sketch for the window appeared in the 1911 Harvard magazine which, along with some other information is included with the lot SIZE: 13-3/4″ x 10-1/4″ PROVENANCE: Found in basement of All Saints Church Peterborough, NH CONDITION: A large crease across lower center, acid burn through paper, moisture discoloration over 2/3 of the sheet, as it 50898-4 (1,000-1,500) – Lot 1597
