*BROWNING GRADE V BAR MAGNUM SEMI-AUTOMATIC RIFLE ENGRAVED BY J. M. DEPREZ AND R. KOWALSKI WITH SCOPE AND CASE.

SN 73398M71. Cal. 7mm Remington Mag. This top of the Browning line big game rifle has 24″ round bbl marked with Browning Morgan Utah and Montreal addresses, and “MADE IN BELGIUM” on left, and with “BAR”, caliber, and “BROWNING PATENTS” on right. Large blue finished action with hinged magazine and gold plated trigger has sides engraved with exceptionally well cut semi-relief large open shaded scroll surrounding nicely detailed game scenes within gold inlaid line borders in similar style to Midas grade superposed guns. Subjects of the scenes are suitable quarry for rifle of this caliber, and major subjects are semi-relief gold inlaid; a bugling elk challenging another bull elk with a pair of cows is in open meadow on left side of action, with a similar scene of bull moose and cows in wetlands on right. The left scene is signed “R. Kowalski”, and the signature of “J. M. Deprez” is in engraving under left scene. Nicely flame figured claro walnut square knob pistol grip buttstock measures 13-7/8″ over solid black basket-weave Browning pad. Closely spaced checkering with acanthus carved borders is at grip. Matching large forend is held by combination sling stud and screw. Weight with scope: 9 lbs 7 oz. LOP: 13-7/8″. Browning 2X-7x scope with crosshair and post reticle is in Redfield type rings in one piece base. Brown vinyl Browning hard shell case is lined in off-white faux fur, includes instruction booklet, and case tags and key. CONDITION: Excellent, near new, showing little evidence of having been fired since proof, with only a few minor marks in wood and metal finishes. Carving slightly darkened. Gold of trigger is excellent. Scope is excellent with some light marks. Optics clear. Case is excellent, with some scuffs. These truly exceptional Browning rifles were only made for four years, 1971-1974. Production ceased because these rifles were very costly to produce. 49033-11 MGM148 (5,750-9,000) – Lot 2066
