SN 5284. Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. Three sets of 29″ demi-bloc bbls marked with “I”, “II”, and “II” over a lazy “I” are choked IC and Mod, Mod and full, and Full and full, and are each fitted with concave, matted, ventilated rib. Top rights of bbls are engraved “PERAZZI BRESCIA”, and top lefts with “MADE ESPECIALLY FOR GEORGE NEARY”. Bottoms of mono-blocs are stamped with matching SNs, makers initials (MAP), and 1967 Italian nitro proofs. Bottoms of bbls are engraved “ACCIAIO PHONIX DEMIBLOC”. All bbls are served by a single forend. Coin finished, low profile, full sidelock, OU action features non-automatic safety (S inlaid in gold), gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, and single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved with full coverage semi relief, boldly shaded, open scrolling acanthus, highlighted by a mixture of mythological beasts including gargoyles, griffins, and chickens peering through foliage in classic baroque style. Central motifs on sideplates are of bulldogs heads. Bottom of action portrays a face-on griffin, wings outstretched over a fox and some other noxious beast. “PERAZZI BRESCIA” is engraved on forend iron cutout. Blued top lever has matching foliage, and thumbpiece is pierced and in the form of a crouching griffin. Foliage and beasts continue onto the trigger guard which has SN at grip. This very fine classic engraving is by noted engraver to Perazzi, Abbiatico & Salvinelli, Fabbri et al, Angelo Galeazzi, whose signature is on trigger plate. Fine exhibition quality marbled and stump figured European walnut straight grip buttstock with slight Monte Carlo, measures 14-5/8″ over leather faced Silver type pad. Very closely spaced, perhaps 36 LPI, point pattern checkering with mullered borders is at grip. A gold oval engraved “JCB” is on toe line. Matching semi-beavertail one piece forend has Anson type release with catch in central escutcheon similar in appearance to a Deeley release. BBL set “I”: Bore diameter: top -.731, bottom -.728. PROVENANCE: Internet info on Galeazzi. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain nearly all of their orig blue with slight silvering at muzzles and sharp edges, with a few light marks. Action retains essentially all of its coin finish. Breechfaces show very faint firing halos. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their orig oil finish, thinning, with some light marks, checkering lightly worn. Action is very slightly loose with bbl set “I” and bbls are a bit off face. Action is tight as a tick with bbl sets “II” and “II” with lazy “I”. Bores are excellent. Mechanically crisp. Ejectors are slightly out of time. Case is good. Accessories are like new. A fine early collectible Perazzi embellished by one of the all time great Italian “new renaissance” engravers. 49417-18 MGM137 (20,000-30,000) – Lot 2168
