Front sight assembly is from an earlier MP-38 model with tab above muzzle nut. Bolt is unnumbered with Steyr eagle proof. Markings on this specimen indicate 1944 manufacture. Lot includes 2 orig “41” dated magazines and 1 orig magazine loader, as well as a leather sling. Bbl nut retention bar is white metal with eagle over 37 proof mark (C.G. Haenel). Unserialized bbl exhibits typical Eagle over 37 proofs w/Nazi Eagle firing proof on left side. The MP-40 has achieved wide recognition by both veterans and film-goers as an iconic German submachine gun. This is a National Firearms Act item and requires BATF approval prior to transfer. This weapon is fully transferable on an ATF form 3 or form 4 as Curio & Relic eligible. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine w/deep lustrous blue on bbl w/somewhat duller orig finish w/some small areas of pitting on the receiver and magazine housing w/somewhat more lustrous finish on end cap and swing-out shoulder loop. Brown composite furnishings are very good w/hand-inscribed name “King” and “FRANKFURT” lightly inscribed on left side. Mechanics are fine, bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright, as nice as this cataloger has seen in an MP-40. Magazines are also fine, as is loader finish with some wear to the high edges. Nice late war style sling in fine orig condition. Nice C&R specimens such as this are highly sought collector’s items and do not come up very frequently. 53166-4 JWK (18,000-22,000) C&R – Lot 1020
