FINE EARLY PORTRAIT JUMEAU. One of the earlier examples of a Jumeau portrait on an “8 ball body” with cupped hands. Extremely pale bisque with threaded blue paperweight eyes and delicately outlined lips. Typical of early Jumeaus oftentimes they have strange artist marks. Whether experimental or in between various periods, one can only ponder and guess at what these marks really mean. She retains spring in her head, but upon looking at the rear there is the artist’s check mark in red and “L” and what appears to be a “Z” impressed into the bisque, but more likely is the number “7/”. She corresponds in size to the smallest first series portrait which is normally mark “4/0”. Truly a stunning example, yet a mystery. SIZE: Approx 12-1/2″ t. CONDITION: Overall very fine. Body has minimal wear. Bisque head appears to be free of any damage. 1-11451 (6,000-9,000)
