JUMEAU AUTOMATON SEATED KNITTER. Quite possibly by the French Lambert circa 1890s featuring a tete Jumeau head with closed mouth seated in a fanciful gold chair. Upon activation this young lady becomes quite busy moving both hands, knitting or crocheting with a ball of yarn. All the while looking upwards and then downwards studying her work. A classic automaton with two musical tunes and a pleasing presence about her. The marked bisque head features brown paperweight eyes, fine quality bisque and a closed mouth. Her papier mache arms are intact and are an original finish and she is dressed in a maroon and deep red outfit which is quite possibly original to her and shows minimal distress and some “dustiness” to the outfit. Gold chair is in excellent condition and red velvet base is intact, but a fair amount of loss/wear to nap. SIZE: Approx. 10-1/2″ w x 10-1/2″ l x 17″ t. CONDITION: Overall very good plus. Excellent working order. One ivory/bone needle has crack at attachment point. 1-11455 (4,000-6,000)
