EXCEPTIONALLY RARE HIRES ROOTBEER DIE-CUT CARDBOARD SIGN. Fabulous image of the Hires “Ugly Kid” at the stick of an early motor car, carrying a cargo of Hires rootbeer packaged preparations. Bottom of the sign is captioned “Say! You “Au-To” Drink Hires Rootbeer”. Sign is marked “Copyrighted 1900 by the Charles E. Hires Co.” and lithographed by the H. A. Thomas & Wylie Litho. Co. N.Y. This sign appears to have a cardboard easel-back and was likely used as a counter-top store display. It is the only copy known to exist. SIZE: Image: 19-1/2″ w x 29-1/2″ h. CONDITION: Overall in very good condition with some areas of restoration, notably the “Kid’s” raised hand and shoe; across the bottom portion where it appears there have been some creasing or reattachment with in-painting; the white and some black lettering has been repainted; light surface scuffs to the boy’s head and belt with a few cardboard chips to the top of his head. All said, simply a fabulous investment grade sign that displays extremely well. 1-11182 (10,000-20,000)
