OIL ON CANVAS WINTER SCENE WITH SKATERS AND SLEIGHS BY JOSEPH MORVILLER (1800-1870). Unsigned. Painting has inscription on stretcher “Gift from Mr. Morviller to Grandma Dodd on her death to Sarah”. Scene shows large house, possibly a tavern with connected buildings next to large pond/lake with horse and sleigh in front. Several people walk from building. Others are seated on sleighs, watching many skaters. A wonderful example of this artist’s work who was known to do this type of scene. SIZE: 18″ h x 30″w. CONDITION: Appears to be untouched. Has small puncture in sky and paint chip to right corner, otherwise very good. 9-91953 (3,000-5,000)
