OIL ON PANEL TROMPE L’OEIL OF HALBERD ATTRIBUTED TO ALEXANDER POPE (1849-1924). Painting shows large halberd with its bottom part of its shaft crossing over a white card that is tacked down which has writing indicating that it was carried by one of King Henry VIII guards. Reddish black background with simulated brass tacks on border. Panel has molded edge with no frame. Provenance: Probably acquired from artist, descended from the Dutton-Chase family of Medford, Mass. SIZE: 48″ h x 12″ w. CONDITION: Very good, some minor in-perfection’s. 65-4 (4,000-6,000)
