CAMPBELL’S SOUPS TIN SIGN. The Holy Grail of all advertising signs, rarely seen and seldom ever appearing on the auction block. When Campbell’s introduced this sign to their selected retail accounts, it created such a public controversy by using an image of the American Flag for commercial self-promotion that most of the signs were quickly withdrawn and destroyed. Simply a fabulous pop-art graphic example of early advertising Americana that would be tremendously enhanced with a bit of restoration. Lithographed by the Standard Adv. Co., Coshocton, Ohio. SIZE: 39-1/4″ wide x 27-1/4″ high. CONDITION: Overall fair to good. Perimeter edges exhibit bending, nail holes, scuffs and scratches. Field of sign shows multiple nail holes and two 1/2″ diameter holes, cause unknown. Bottom left corner of the “flag” and the word “Just” show some corrosion with a build up of some tar-like substance. 1-7991 (10,000-20,000)
