SPECTACULAR H.C. EVANS HORSE RACE GAMING WHEEL WITH ODDS INDICATOR. Perhaps one of the most desirable and aesthetically pleasing gaming wheels ever manufactured. On a wooden and cast iron tripod base, with a mechanical drum odds wheel atop, and further adorned by nickel plated eagle, this reverse painted wheel depicting ten various horses at the racetrack, is further enhanced with a mirrored star like center, making this a desirable piece not only for gaming collectors, but horse lovers alike. Overall the condition is very fine with period park paint. The wheel is contained in its original carrying crate, and an additional crate was created (perhaps by the operator) for the base and odds counter. Wheels of this nature were used throughout the country at local fairs and carnivals as well as at firehouse benefits, VFW’s, fraternal lodges, etc. It appears as though this piece saw little use since its creation around the 1940s. SIZE: Approx. 7′ t., wheel diameter: 5′. CONDITION: Overall very fine. Center section has four mirrors, one has a small crack, and another has a double crack that intersects itself as visible in photo. Some very minor lifting to paint on racehorse scenes. 8-76231 JL (4,500-6,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2008 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
