IMPORTANT LARGE OIL ON CANVAS BEACH SCENE ATTRIBUTED TO JOAQUIN SOROLLA Y BASTIDA (SPANISH 1863-1923). Painting shows sailboat being pulled up in front of crashing waves onto beach. One man pulls while other two push alongside. Sail is up but is only shown partially. Painting has wonderful, colorful palate using broad strokes. Composition and style are similar to a group of paintings Sorolla executed on Valencia beaches. Housed in what appears to be it’s original carved frame by Foster Bros. (partial label affixed). Original canvas, unsigned. On the inside base of the stretcher is writing which appears to be “Sorolla B 10?”. Reference for similar style painting see color number 58 page 171 also described on page 233 of “The Painter Joaquin Sorolla by Edmund Peal” SIZE: 26″h x 36″w.
