IMPORTANT AND RARE CHIPPENDALE BALL AND CLAW FOOT MAHOGANY TESTER BED. Front two posts are stop-fluted which ends in ring turnings. Well carved knee with leaf carving. Small punch and stipple decoration around carved leaves, large ball with long carved talons. Top of post has ring turning with square-block top continuing to a simple turning. Brass end caps over bolt holes. Foot board posts are tapered octagon-carved. Simple pine head board may be replacement. This bed comes from a fine home in Bangor, Maine. Has some of the attributions of known Salem, Massachusetts beds. Square replaced tester with finery included. SIZE: 82″h x 51″w x 70″l. CONDITION: Very good condition. Four small holes in each front post where it appears something was mounted. 9-91554 (15,000-25,000)
