FINE 19TH C. RUSSIAN LACQUERED TEA CADDY. This beautiful box descended through a Maine family, whose ancestor worked as an ambassador in Russia during the late 19th C. According to the family, it was at this time that the box was acquired. The top features a troika pulled by three horses with a gentleman and three lovely maids inside. The landscape is nicely painted with light gold highlights. The top lifts to reveal two brilliant red lacquered compartments with sliding lids, each for tea. The interior of the top lid hallmarked with three bright double-headed imperial Russian eagles with Russian inscription surrounding it. This is an outstanding 19th C. tea caddy. SIZE: 10″ w.5 1/2″ h. x 5 1/2″ d. CONDITION: Some age separation on the painted scene on the lid, some very minor scuffs, and a small piece missing on the back underside of lid, otherwise generally very good. 9-92398 (500-1,000)
