IMPORTANT LARGE OIL ON CANVAS SHIP PORTRAIT OF THE SCHOONER “SAMUEL J. GOUCHER” BY SFM BADGER DATED 1908 (1873-1919). Ship built in Camden, Maine in 1904. This painting shows a five mast ship in full sail with people on deck and dark waves, in background is the Nantucket Light Ship #66. An interesting feature of this painting is Badger’s attempt at luminosity in the sky and water. The effect gives pinkish glow and is quite successful. SIGHT SIZE: 25 1/2″h x 41 1/2″w.
